When my sister was in the ICU in 2019, my other sisters began talking to a relative of another patient in the ICU. They learned that the patient’s brain was swollen from a motorcycle accident. The girl was scheduled for surgery the next morning, so that part of her skull could be removed to relieve pressure, and reduce swelling.
A friend of my sister’s asked if they could pray for the girl in the hospital room. The family said yes. They prayed.
The next morning when the Dr. was reviewing the patient’s condition, he noticed that there was no more swelling. No swelling, no need to operate. He could not explain what happened. I get choked up when I think about it, or try to recount the story. Some may say the patient was lucky, some may say it was the power of prayer. I believe the latter.
Another story about prayer.
BEFORE YOU READ TODAY’S PASSAGE…
STOP: Lord, where is my heart today?
LOOK: Lord, help me discover new truth from your Word today.
LISTEN: Lord, what is your thought for me today from your Word?
Immediately the father of the child cried out, “I believe; help my unbelief!” When Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You spirit that keeps this boy from speaking and hearing, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!” After crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he was able to stand. When he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” He said to them, “This kind can come out only through prayer.”
RESPOND:
Lord, what do I need to talk with You about?
Lord, what are you asking me to do?
