I’ve heard this passage in sermons several times over the past three years or so. The first time I heard it was in a Saturday night sermon. I went home that night after walking the aisles of Target, because I had nothing to do, the kids were no longer at home with me and I was all by myself. I decided to read the Bible and pick up where I had left off on a daily reading plan. Can you say LOSER. Who reads the Word on a Saturday night??? And wouldn’t you know it this verse was in the very chapter that was next up in the reading plan. I was beside myself, and really thought God was trying to tell me something. Some would say this was a coincidence. With the things that were going on in my life I know that it was no coincidence, God was speaking through his word directly to me.

I took away from the passage that I needed to take every thought that entered my mind and put in through a “God filter.” Take thoughts and do what I think God would want me to do with those thoughts. Whether it be to take action or eliminate the thoughts from my mind. Then once I was obedient to what God was telling me to do, he would move on my behalf.

This passage may mean something completely different to you. My hope is that when you do read this and every passage you think about what God is telling you through his word. It will change your life.

BEFORE YOU READ TODAY’S PASSAGE…
STOP: Lord, where is my heart today?
LOOK: Lord, help me discover new truth from your Word today.
LISTEN: Lord, what is your thought for me today from your Word?

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.

RESPOND:
Lord, what do I need to talk with You about?
